Seven Dates: interactive monodrama

I wrote this play in 2019 inspired by the various theories of life cycles and my own experiences of historical synchronicities. I have depicted the life of a woman at 7 historical dates from communism to capitalism, examining her dates and relationships. From a suburban tower block existence to an artist’s studio in New York and an allegorical ’omnipresent’ scene at the end the audience can accompany her psychological development as the historical era of mistrust and political spies unfolds in the background. The play deals with issues of femininity, forgiveness and reconciliation both from a personal and from a collective perspective.

It is a full-length monologue that can be performed both with a minimum amount of props and with a more detailed setting of the scene in a variety of venues (indoor and outdoor), both in a standard and site-specific form (e.g. in an art gallery or private house).

The show will be presented in two ways: played from beginning to end at first, followed by the option of setting it in a Forum Theatre format as an interactive monodrama: at the various points of crisis the audience can intervene, stepping into the role of the protagonist or her latently present partner, bringing the scene to a different ending. This results in an exciting, new production with plenty of interaction.
